What is Montessori?

Montessori is an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, in the early 20th century. The Montessori method is based on the belief that children have an innate desire to learn and explore the world around them, and that they learn best through hands-on experiences.

In Montessori classrooms, children are given the freedom to choose their own activities and work at their own pace, with guidance from the teacher. The curriculum is designed to promote the development of the whole child, including their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth.

Montessori education emphasizes the use of concrete materials and real-life experiences to help children understand abstract concepts. The approach also places a strong emphasis on practical life skills, such as self-care and everyday tasks like cleaning and cooking.

Overall, the Montessori method aims to provide children with a holistic education that fosters their natural curiosity, independence, and love of learning.

Our Philosophy

At Little Stars, we are committed to providing an authentic Montessori education that fosters a love for learning, and celebrates each child's uniqueness. Our program is designed to create a nurturing and engaging environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Central to our Montessori philosophy is the belief that children are natural learners with an innate curiosity and desire to explore the world around them. We embrace Maria Montessori's principals, offering a carefully prepared environment that allows children to engage in self-directed, hands-on learning experiences. Our classroom is thoughtfully designed to provide a wide range of materials and activities that promote independence, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

In our Montessori program, teachers serve as facilitators, guiding children on their individual learning paths. They observe each child closely, identifying their strengths, interests, and developmental needs, and providing personalized guidance and support. We emphasize the development of practical life skills, sensorial experiences, language arts, mathematics, cultural studies, and the arts, creating a holistic approach to education.

Our Montessori program also encourages the development of social skills and a strong sense of community. Children learn to collaborate, respect others, and appreciate diversity. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Through our Montessori program, we aim to instill a lifelong love for learning, a sense of responsibility, and a strong foundation for academic success. We believe that by nurturing the whole child and honouring their individuality, we empower them to become confident, independent, and compassionate individuals who will positively contribute to the world.
